Polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation sheet has a combustion resistant isocyanurate ring structure. It can withstand heat up to 400°C and PIR combustion creates a carbon layer covering the surface. Then the black skin (Char) will be formed to help prevent oxygen gas from touching the foam inside. which is to prevent the spread of fire. In addition, PIR also has the following features
  • Heat resistant up to 400°C (decomposition temperature of isocyanurate ring not the service temperature)
  • Fire resistant, non-flammable and quite difficult to ignite.

These are test results according to ASTM C272 : Standard Test Method for Water Absorption of Core Materials for Structural Sandwich Constructions. It summarizes the comparative test results as a percentage of the weight increased by absorbing water.
